What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Statement of Faith

Pagosa Bible Church is a non-denominational church made up of people who come from a variety of church backgrounds and traditions.  As we seek to live together in the love and unity of Jesus Christ we work to keep the main thing the main thing.  In our statement of faith we seek to express the essentials of belief and practice.

The Bible

We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, entirely trustworthy, the complete and final revelation of His will for the salvation of mankind, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3 :16-17; Hebrews 1: 1-2).

The Trinity

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  As revealed to mankind, the Father sent the Son, and the Father and Son sent the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 3:16; John 14:26).

God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

We believe in God the Father, an infinite personal Spirit perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love.  We believe He concerns himself mercifully in the affairs of mankind, He hears and answers prayer, and He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through His son, Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:1; John 3 :16; Matthew 6:30-32; Ephesians 1:3-6).

We believe Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He lived a sinless life.  He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures.  Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven where at the right hand of God, He is our high priest and intercessor.  He will return to establish His earthly kingdom (Isaiah 9:6; John 10:30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; Titus 2:13).

We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God, equal with the Father and Son.  The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age to convict mankind, regenerate the believing sinner; and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for Godly living, service and ministry (John 14:16-17, 26; John 16:7-11; Ephesians 4:30).

Humanity

We believe that all people are created in the image of God; that all have sinned, and incurred physical death and spiritual death, (separation from God). All people are born with a sinful nature (Genesis 1 :27; Genesis 3: 17- 19; Romans 5:12; Romans 12).

Salvation

We believe salvation is a free gift from God and is received by mankind through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from any human merit, works or ritual.  We believe that the shed blood of Jesus and His resurrection provide the only means for salvation for all who believe, and only those who receive Jesus Christ through faith are born again, become children of God, and receive eternal life.  We believe that the true believer is eternally secure (1 John 5:11-12; John 14:6; John 3:3-16).

Christ's Return and Eternity

We believe in the physical return of Jesus Christ and the bodily resurrection of the dead: all will be judged; the believer will receive everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, the unbeliever will spend eternity in a literal hell (Romans 14:10-12; Acts 17:31; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:11- 15).
